Today we introduce you to Karla, Recruitment Consultant at MCA Nederland. She came all the way from Brazil and changed her life routine to join MCA Nederland with her husband. Meet her now !
1/ Hello Karla, how are you? Thanks for participating to this interview. Could you present yourself quickly?
Hi, my name is Karla. I am Brazilian living in Eindhoven since May 2018. I hold a bachelor in Foreign Trade and I’ve been working with HR since 2011 when I joined my first internship in this field, it was in a home appliances industry. Since then, I experienced several different roles such as recruitment, training and development, performance and career management and employee satisfaction, but always in the industry. This is my first time working for a consultancy company and I’ve been enjoying and learning a lot from it.
On my free time I enjoy cooking, traveling and hanging out with some friends. I also enjoy learning new stuff, specially handcrafts.
2/ Why deciding to start your career in HR and recruitment? Was it always the path you wanted to go for?
I started in Human Resources when I was 20. I took part in a graduate program where I was aiming for a Foreign Trade position, my area of studies, but it ended up that they didn’t have any position related to this are and they offered me 2 options: HR and Procurement, due to a great conversation I had with the Human Resources Manager I decided to go for Human Resources team and it was a great decision.
3/ You are now Recruitment Officer for MCA Nederland. Have you heard of MCA before applying? What convinced you to jump on board with MCA, an engineering company?
Yes. Actually, I knew MCA thanks to my husband. He was selected to join MCA in the beginning of the year. He started working in May and after 2 months I joined MCA as well. I knew that MCA was a great company from our experience of moving to Eindhoven. It was a smooth process and I knew I could trust it, that’s why I did not think twice before applying for the recruitment position.
4/ You’re from Brasil : why deciding to pursue your career in the Netherlands? How did that happen?
We – me and my husband – always discussed the possibility of pursuing an international career, but we never had a specific destination in mind and we could not imagine that it could happen so fast. After MCA approached him, we started searching more information about the Netherlands and Eindhoven, and based on what we found we decided that it could be a great place to develop ourselves and start a new life, especially because of the culture, people are really open and friendly, as well as the safe environment. So far, we have been enjoying it a lot. We met people from all over the world and I can say that I already feel at home!
5/ What is a typical day like for you at work? The main challenges you have?
I normally start my day by checking urgent e-mails, unread messages on LinkedIn, Skype, etc., I like to be sure I’m not missing something really important. After that it can be really dynamic, from sourcing and sending messages to candidates to creating and posting job opportunities, discussing profiles with the Business Managers, meeting some great people over the phone or Skype. I think that the biggest challenge we have in the Netherlands is the super competitive market that we are inserted.
6/ If you could describe MCA in 3 words, what would it be?
Dynamic, Learning, Growth
7/ Which places would you recommend for someone coming to visit Eindhoven?
I am a nature lover, so I would probably recommend the green areas, Genneper Park, Anne Frankplantsoen, Philips de Jongh park. I also enjoy trying different beers so I would definitely recommend Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven, it’s a local brewery.
8/ What are the main qualities you need to have as a Recruitment Consultant?
I think that time and data management are fundamental skills for recruiters. In addition, we must communicate very well – not only talk, but also know how to listen – and our work also requires from us resilience and creativeness.
9/ Last but not least… Any fun fact about you? 😊
No, I am a super normal person! Just kidding. I love visiting supermarkets in different cities and countries and I walk around very slowly checking for stuff that I am not familiar with and I normally buy some products (fruits, vegetables, drinks) to find out how they taste. Another fun fact is that I’m baking pear cake every week to bring to the office. It started because we receive a box with fruits weekly, as the pears were always spoiling I started doing it (I hate wasting food) and now people stopped eating the pears to make sure there will be enough pears for the cake.
